‘Revive the spirit of San Francisco,’ Belarus Foreign Minister tells UN General Assembly debate

Highlighting the universal legitimacy of the United Nations in his address to the world body’s General Assembly, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, today called for the international community to “revive the spirit of San Francisco” – where the Organization was founded – in order to deal with challenges the world currently faces.

UNESCO chief voices alarm at destruction of Syrian heritage site

Both sides of the Syrian conflict must do all they can to prevent the destruction of Aleppo’s ancient network of markets, the head of the United Nations agency tasked with safeguarding the world’s cultural heritage has said, while calling reports of devastation from the embattled city “deeply distressing.”
