South Sudan committed to peace in wake of foiled rebel coup, Kiir tells UN

Following a failed coup by a former deputy that sparked a violent, months-long conflict in South Sudan, President Salva Kiir told the United Nations today that his Government is deeply committed to “talk peace with the rebels to close this dark chapter in the history of our young country”, so the difficult mission of socio-economic development could begin.

Central Asian, Caucasus leaders outline development strategies for region

In his remarks to the General Assembly, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Erlan Idrissov, said he was particularly concerned with the continuing violence in the Middle East and Africa, and now Ukraine, whose impact extends to the entire region including through sanctions being imposed by countries that together make up 60 per cent of the world GDP (gross domestic product).
