Ebola virus transmission ends in Liberia – UN health agency

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Liberia free of Ebola virus transmission as forty-two days have passed since the last laboratory-confirmed case was buried on 28 March, a “monumental achievement” for a country that reported the highest number of deaths in the largest, longest, and most complex outbreak since Ebola first emerged in 1976.

In Ukraine, Ban pledges UN support amid ‘debilitating’ conflict in country’s eastern regions

Continuing his travels in Europe to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon joined the people of Ukraine today to honour the millions of soldiers and citizens who fought to defend human dignity against the aggression of Nazism, and also pledged support from the United Nations as Ukraine deals with a protracted conflict in the east.
