Vanguard of large UN peacekeeping force arrives in southern Sudan

Twelve Nepalese soldiers, the vanguard of what will eventually be a 10,000-member United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Sudan, has arrived on the ground at the start of the launch of a massive operation to help the vast region stabilize and its people rebuild their lives after the devastation of a 21-year civil war.

UN agencies draft guidelines for caring for people with HIV/AIDS

Proposing guidelines to protect the safety of those involved in the global struggle against HIV/AIDS, the United Nations labour and health agencies said health-care workers looking after infected people are facing not only the risk of infection, but also the psychological burdens of patients' deaths and the physical burdens of overwork.
