UN and EBU leaders meet on next month's Information Summit

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan and two senior officials from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), President Arne Wessberg and Secretary-General Jean Stock, today discussed the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, next month.

Assessment mission will go to Côte d'Ivoire, Annan says

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, saying that Côte d'Ivoire could slip back into conflict, told the Security Council today that he would soon send an assessment mission to that country so that he can prepare recommendations for improving the work of the UN's peacekeeping mission (MINUCI) there.

Security Council extends UN Cyprus force for another six months

The Security Council today unanimously extended the mandate of the 40-year-old United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for another six months, and urged the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkish forces to rescind all remaining restrictions on the mission in the divided Mediterranean island.
