High-level panel poised to present to Annan report on global threats

A high-level panel appointed last year by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is poised to officially release its report on threats to international peace and security in the twenty-first century and recommendations on how to deal with them, including two proposals for expanding the membership of the Security Council.

UN, partners seek $1.5 billion in urgent aid for war-torn Sudan for 2005

The United Nations and its partners in Sudan today appealed for $1.5 billion in urgent aid for 2005, more than double this year’s amount, including $600 million for life-saving and sustaining activities in the strife-torn western Darfur region, which the international organization has called the world’s current worst humanitarian crisis.
