More than 11 tonnes of medical supplies have been airlifted to Al-Qamishli in northern Syria for the first time since last December, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization has said.

Speaking on the line from Damascus, Tarik Jasarevic said the aid was “really helpful” for this part of Syria where accessibility to health services is very low.

An estimated 550,000 people in the Kurdish area are in need of assistance, including 30,000 international displaced persons and refugees.

The priority right now for WHO and humanitarian agencies in the country, he explained to Mustafa Al Gamal, is to reach the besieged and hard-to-reach areas across the country.
