For 15 years, indigenous people from around the world have had a space where they can share their experiences and concerns.

The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues has been recognized as the global gathering that works to improve the lives of this population, which numbers more than 370 million.

That assessment was made by Chandra Roy-Henriksen, Chief of the Secretariat for the Forum, which is approaching the end of its annual two-week session in New York.

The UN official, who is an indigenous woman from Bangladesh, talks to Dianne Penn about the Forum’s significance and some of its successes over the years.
