Annan set to travel to Mozambique for Africa Union summit

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is set to travel tonight to Maputo, Mozambique, on a five-day visit during which he is to address the summit of the African Union and meet with the continent’s leaders.

Mr. Annan is expected to meet tomorrow with President Joachim Chissano of Mozambique. On Wednesday, he will also meet with UN-system heads attending the summit.

On Thursday, he will attend a breakfast hosted by President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, before addressing the summit later that morning.

The Secretary-General is expected to return to New York on Saturday.
