The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, will be in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to discuss the HIV/AIDS epidemic with members of a key Senate committee, a spokesman for Mr. Annan announced today.

“The Secretary-General will travel to Washington, D.C., tomorrow for an informal discussion on the global impact of AIDS with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, at the invitation of Committee Chairman Joseph Biden and ranking member Jesse Helms,” spokesman Fred Eckhard told reporters in New York.

At the outset of the meeting, the Secretary-General is expected to make brief opening comments, the spokesman said.
