List of nominees for judges at UN war crimes tribunal sent to Security Council
The Security Council will review the nominations before passing on the names of at least 54 of the judges to the UN General Assembly, which will make the final selection. The 27 judges selected by the Assembly will serve for a non-renewable term of four years.
On 30 November, the Council decided to establish a pool of 27 ad litem judges to help ease the ICTY's workload and help expedite its proceedings. The candidates, proposed by UN Member States and observers, are expected to be persons of high moral character, impartiality and integrity, and are expected to hold themselves fully at the disposal of the court during the period in which they are appointed to serve.
