Investigations will be held into a deadly incident last month at a UN compound sheltering civilians in the city of Malakal in South Sudan.

At least 18 people were reportedly killed and dozens injured following inter-communal violence at the protection of civilians site run by the UN mission in the country, UNMISS.

The so-called POC site is one of six UN bases in South Sudan which are housing some 200,000 people who have been displaced by more than two years of conflict in the world’s youngest nation

UNMISS chief Ellen Margarethe Løj this week travelled to Malakal where she met with affected communities and local leaders.

She talks to Luka William Athiel about her visit which coincided with International Women’s Day on 8 March.
