There is “never, never any justification for murder”, the UN Security Council has been told by the UN Deputy Secretary-General.

The Council met Thursday on the escalating violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem.

More than 50 people, the majority of them Palestinian, have been killed in the latest round of violence in the region.  Clashes began a month ago over tensions surrounding access to a holy site in Jerusalem, revered by both Jews and Muslims.
