The more than decade-and-a-half long detention of journalist Dawit Isaac in Eritrea must end, a UN investigator said on Wednesday.
In her call to the authorities on World Press Freedom Day, Sheila Keetharuth also called for all other journalists held unlawfully there to be freed immediately.
Isaac, who has been awarded the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize 2007, was one of the founders of Eritrea’s first independent newspaper.
He was arrested in 2001 and his whereabouts are unknown, Keetharuth told Daniel Johnson.
