The persecution of Baha’is in Iran is a “very deep-seated” issue according to Ahmed Shaheed, the UN’s special rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief.

Dr Shaheed expressed concern that the faith has so far not been recognized as a religion by Iran, adding that government policy undermined the rights of the Baha’i community.
