Severely malnourished children in some parts of Yemen are surviving on bread alone most days of the week.

That’s what mothers told a team from the World Food Programme (WFP) which concluded a visit to the country on Tuesday.

Fierce conflict between Yemeni government forces and rebels has raged more than a year, but access to food was already a challenge before the fighting.

WFP senior spokesperson Abeer Etefa was part of the team that travelled to Yemen.

She told Reem Abaza that the UN agency cannot keep up with the immense need.
