A steep learning curve faces United Nations police officers when they are stationed in a mission where the UN is providing support.

That’s the view of Maria Appelblom, chief of the organization’s Standing Police Capacity which is based in Italy.

The SPC, as it’s known, is a rapidly deployable arm of the Police Division which aims to build institutional capacity in post-conflict environments.

Ms Appelblom has been in at UN Headquarters in New York to attend the first ever Chiefs of Police summit, attended by 110 national chiefs.

Daniel Dickinson asked her why it’s important to meet her peers from other countries.
