It is“crucial” to find the best person to lead the UN into the future as the organization “grapples with multiple crises”.

That was the message from the President of the General Assembly, speaking at the beginning of an unprecedented meeting which marks the beginning of the process to select the next Secretary-General.

Mogens Lykketoft, said it was an “historic moment” for the UN, as three candidates appeared on Tuesday to face questions from Member States and civil society groups.
