More investment must be made in Rwanda, where people are still reeling from the 1994 genocide, a legal and human rights expert has recommended.

Adama Dieng, UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, said the country will not be able to meet development objectives if a large number of its citizens are still traumatized by the tragedy.

Carlos Martinez spoke to Mr Dieng ahead of the annual UN ceremony to reflect on the genocide, which saw as many as one million people killed over a three-month period starting on 7 April 1994.

He asked if it is even possible to achieve reconciliation after such an atrocity.
