Pakistan’s so-called “Light Ladies” are helping power up off-grid villages, becoming real agents of change in their hometowns, a young female executive has said.

The initiative is part of the “light a million lives” project of the Buksh Foundation, a microfinance institution.

Also known as “Roshna Bibi” in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, the women run local solar charging stations and solar lamp shops.

Fiza Farhan, the CEO of Buksh Foundation and its offshoot, Buksh Energy has been recently named Member of the first-ever High-Level Panel of the UN Secretary-General on Women’s Economic Empowerment.

She has been explaining to Jocelyne Sambira how she succeeded where others have failed.
