Denmark has been criticized at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva for considering a law which would permit the authorities to confiscate money and possessions from asylum seekers.

The number of people seeking asylum in the European Union has more than doubled over the last year as a result of people fleeing conflict in the Middle East and Africa.
