The murder of a blogger in Bangladesh who supported the rights of women and minorities has been condemned by two UN human rights experts.

Niloy Neel was reportedly hacked to death on Friday in his apartment in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, by an extremist gang.

Before his death, Mr Neel wrote posts condemning the recent killings of three other bloggers and the oppression of Hindus in the country.

David Kaye, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression, says his violent murder shows a serious threat to freedom of expression in Bangladesh.

Maria Carlino has been speaking to Mr Kaye about the incident.
