The Government of Pakistan and the United Nations today signed an agreement to cooperate in development initiatives in health and population in the South Asian nation.

Co-chaired by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than one dozen UN agencies in Pakistan have developed the joint programme with a price tag of nearly $400 million.

The two-year initiative is based on the ‘Health for All’ approach which ensures there are linkages between different areas, including maternal health, family planning, nutrition and communicable disease management.

It will target priority areas identified by the Pakistani Government with the overall aim of improving health policies, planning and regulation with a view to creating a more equitable and responsive decentralized health system.
