United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who took office at the world body’s helm on 1 January, will travel to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to meet with United States President George W. Bush, his spokesperson announced today.

“The Secretary-General told you yesterday that he will make a courtesy visit to Washington, D.C., next week and meet with the President of the host country, George W. Bush,” Michele Montas told reporters in New York.

“I can confirm that the visit will take place next Tuesday, the 16th of January. In addition to meeting with the President, the Secretary-General will also meet with leaders of the US Congress.”
