United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan today condemned the suicide bombing that took place in Iraq during a funeral service in Miqdadiya, where over 30 people were killed and many others wounded.

A spokesman for Mr. Annan said he is appalled by “this horrendous crime committed against innocent civilians in total disrespect for human life and dignity.”
Today’s bombing is the latest in an increasing number of violent incidents following Iraq’s 15 December 2005 elections.
The Secretary-General called on all parties “to refrain from any action which could undermine Iraq’s democratic progress and to come together in a spirit of national unity and reconciliation,” spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in New York.
