Haiti: UN peacekeeper dies of bullet wound sustained during attack
Captain Yousef Algader, a 31-year old Jordanian, was immediately transferred to a military hospital but did not survive his injuries.
MINUSTAH paid tribute to the late married father of three, lauding him for giving his life in the service of peace, and extended condolences to his grieving family and fellow Jordanian peacekeepers.
It also pledged its continued determination to end the use of illegal weapons by criminal gangs that perpetuate a climate of violence and insecurity, endangering the lives of the local population.
“MINUSTAH would also like to salute the courage and remarkable work carried out by the Jordanian blue helmets who brave constant danger during their security and stabilization mission in their area of responsibility, Cité Soleil,” the Mission said in a statement released in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
Over the past three months, the two Jordanian battalions operating in Cité Soleil apprehended 21 suspected criminals and provided assistance to 10 people who were on the verge of being taken hostage or were the victim of armed gangs.
