Student ‘peace messengers’ from Japan donate over $120,000 to UNICEF

Arriving in New York from Yokohama, Japan, a group of students designated as peace messengers today presented a donation of over $120,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Arriving in New York from Yokohama, Japan, a group of students designated as peace messengers today presented a donation of over $120,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The funds were contributed by residents of Yokohama City, which has been recognized as a “Peace Messenger City” by the United Nations.

In order to be selected, the students had to win a peace-related speech contest and are bringing with them the ¥14,129,319 collected from among the 3.5 million residents of the port town about 30 kilometres south of Tokyo.
