Israelis and Palestinians hold first meeting under aegis of UN cultural agency

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) today reported that the Israeli and Palestinian National Commissions for the Organization held their first ever meeting yesterday in Paris.

The meeting was aimed at implementing reconstruction plans in the Palestinian territories and encouraging reconciliation through dialogue, UNESCO said.

UNESCO, created in 1945 and based in Paris, promotes international cooperation among its 191 Member States and six Associate Members in the fields of education, science, culture and communication. The agency says it is working to create the conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect for shared values and the dignity of each civilization and culture.
