The Special Court for Sierra Leone announced today that it would be sponsoring a fund-raising football event next week to support victims of past atrocities in the country's civil war.

The charity football game, called "Play for Justice," will be held on 13 March at the National Stadium and will pit the Court's own team, the Indomitable Special Court United Football Club, against a Sierra Leonean all-star side.

The event will also feature a pre-game demonstration match by an amputee squad, the Single Leg Football Club, which recently returned from a successful tour of the United Kingdom.

Amputations of civilians by the rebels "became the brutal hallmark of the war in Sierra Leone," UN spokesman Fred Eckhard noted.

The proceeds of the event will go to the War Affected Amputees' Association.
