UN Middle East envoy condemns Palestinian suicide attack at Israel-Gaza border

The senior United Nations envoy for the Middle East today condemned the Palestinian suicide bombing at the Erez crossing between Israel and Gaza as a "terrible terrorist attack" and called on both parties to resume peace talks to prevent the situation from spinning out of control.

The attack seems to be a part of a new upsurge in violence, Terje Roed-Larsen said in a statement in which he extended his condolences to the families of the Israeli victims.

The only way to keep this situation from spinning out of control was for the two sides to return to the negotiating table and show progress, Mr. Roed-Larsen added.
