UN envoy urges end to Israeli flights over Southern Lebanon

Secretary-General Kofi Annan's Personal Representative for Southern Lebanon today voiced concern over continued Israeli overflights in the area and urged an end to all violations of the line of withdrawal.

The call by Staffan de Mistura followed five recorded Israeli air violations of the so-called Blue Line on Sunday. Those incidents involved two jets and four drones.

"The United Nations has on numerous occasions called upon the Israeli authorities to cease these overflights of the Blue Line and Lebanese airspace, which run contrary to efforts to maintain stability," Mr. de Mistura said in a statement issued in Beirut.

He repeated his call to all parties to refrain from any violation of the Blue Line in accordance with their obligations under the relevant Security Council resolutions.
