Annan to review progress in talks on Cyprus in mid-April

The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, will review progress in talks on Cyprus during the first week in April, a United Nations spokesperson announced today.

The review will be carried out “approximately [at] the mid-point between the start of direct talks between the Cypriot leaders in January and the June target for significant progress on the issue,” Marie Okabe told reporters in New York.

The Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Cyprus, Alvaro de Soto, will come to New York to review progress with Mr. Annan, after first visiting Ankara on 28 March and Athens on 29 March for consultations, according to Ms. Okabe.

“While he is here in New York, Mr. de Soto will brief the members of the Security Council,” she said.
