The United Nations mission in Guatemala has called on that country's government to initiate an investigation into the murder of an opposition Partido Patriota (Patriot Party) member, a United Nations spokesperson announced today.

The United Nations mission in Guatemala has called on that country's government to initiate an investigation into the murder of an opposition Partido Patriota (Patriot Party) member, a United Nations spokesperson announced today.

The mission – known by its Spanish acronym MINUGUA – today strongly condemned the killing of Jorge Alberto Rosal Zea, which took place in Guatemala City on Saturday.

MINUGUA also called on the Guatemalan authorities to investigate this murder and a series of similar cases that have occurred over the past three weeks.
