Voicing their “very serious concern” for the political crisis in Madagascar, Security Council members today urged all sides to refrain from aggravating the situation and to seek a political solution within the legal process.

Council members also “expressed their strong support for the actions taken to promote a solution to the crisis in Madagascar by the Organization for African Unity (OAU) and the Secretary-General of the United Nations,” Ambassador Adolfo Aguilar Zinser of Mexico, the current President of the 15-member body, said in a press statement.

Earlier today, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahima Fall briefed the Council on the latest developments in Madagascar.
