Annan hails appointment of New York City's new Commissioner for UN

The United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, today welcomed the appointment of Marjorie Tiven as New York City Commissioner for the UN and Consular Corps.

A spokesman for Mr. Annan said in a statement that the Secretary-General "looks forward to a close and constructive relationship with the Commissioner and her team in tackling many issues of mutual interest and concern."

The statement also welcomed “the warm expressions of support from Mayor [Michael] Bloomberg as the United Nations and its host city open a new chapter in their long history together.”

The Commission serves as New York City's primary liaison between the Mayor's offices and the UN, 189 Permanent Missions and 100 consulates.
