The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) today issued a set of six commemorative stamps featuring World Heritage sites in Japan.

Two stamps are available in each of the three currencies the stamps are sold - US dollars, Swiss francs and Austrian schillings. Three prestige booklets containing 24 stamps each were also issued, one in each denomination.

The United Nations is the only organization in the world that is neither a country nor a territory that is permitted to issue postage stamps. UN stamps are issued simultaneously at UN offices in New York, Geneva and Vienna. Each issue carries a related design theme, with different denominations for each office, and are valid for postage when used on mail from the three UN offices.
