All around the world, people are arrested, attacked, tortured or killed because they are in a loving relationship with someone of the same sex.

To counteract this harassment and discrimination, activists around the world commemorate 17 May as the International Day against Homophobia.

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has released a video on YouTube which makes the case for equal rights for all people regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

In it, High Commissioner Navi Pillay calls on countries to “punish violence and hatred, not love.”
