African nations need to stimulate sectors within their countries that can diversify their economies, so that they are not dependent on commodities.

That is the message from Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the finance minister of Nigeria who attended the recent spring meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in Washington D.C.

The IMF’s Lika Gueye spoke with Minister Okonjo-Iweala, who first discussed her bid to become the President of the World Bank.

Ms. Okonjo-Iweala said that although she did not succeed, she is happy about the unity that Africans demonstrated behind her candidacy.
