Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday warned the world is “becoming unhinged” and underscored the United Nations’ raison d'être, to resolve global crises during times of “maximum danger and minimum agreement.”

With several high-profile world leaders opting out of the UN General Assembly’s annual opening session next week, Secretary-General António Guterres has said that he cares less about who comes to New York and more about what gets done, especially to revive the lagging Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday rallied a diverse cross section of civil society actors to use their passionate voices and energetic grassroots networks to “help rescue the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fight for the better future every person deserves.” 

The UN Secretary-General had a clear message on Wednesday to world leaders arriving in New York next week: “This is not a time for posturing or positioning.”

In a world grappling with increasingly complex crises ranging from poverty and inequality to the climate emergency, the United Nations remains at the forefront of the global response, determined to set humanity on a path to peace and prosperity, Secretary-General António Guterres has said.

It’s that time again! The global spotlight will shine on UN Headquarters in New York later this month when the General Assembly (UNGA) welcomes presidents, monarchs, prime ministers, and Heads of State from its 193 Member States.
