Thousands of displaced people and refugees in northern Iraq are being trained in agricultural production through a project operated by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Through the project, Iraqis displaced by conflict in their homeland as well as  Syrian refugees will receive support in areas such as greenhouse vegetable cultivation, egg and poultry production, beekeeping and food processing.

The US$1.6 million initiative, funded by Germany, aims to restore livelihoods and reduce long-term dependency on emergency food aid.

Sandra Ferrari has been speaking to Paul Schlunke, FAO Senior Emergency Response Coordinator in Iraq, who is based in the capital, Baghdad.
