With nearly four billion people still unable to get online, the UN Internet Governance Forum provides a valuable “space” to discuss ways of connecting even the poorest rural areas of the world.

That’s the view of the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development, Lenni Montiel, speaking ahead of the 11th annual forum, being held in Mexico this week, which brings together stakeholders from across the public and private sectors.

He said Information and Communications Technology (ICTs) were “important tools” to help achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which include ending hunger and poverty; one of the key themes of the forum.

Mr Montiel spoke to Jorge Miyares.
