Piracy and armed robbery in West Africa’s Gulf of Guinea has been on a steady decline over the past few years, but insecurity remains a source of concern a senior UN official told the Security Council on Monday.

The Gulf of Guinea is the name given to the north-eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean which stretches from Guinea down to Angola in the south.

It’s also a busy trade hub for commodities such as oil, gold and agricultural products.
