Efforts to eliminate HIV are working but they should be scaled up massively if the virus is to be beaten, UNAIDS said Friday.

Highlighting the value of harm-reduction programmes and the health dangers of criminalising drug-users in a new report, the UN agency said that prioritising people’s health and human rights is more urgent than ever.

UNAIDS’ Monique Middelhoff told Daniel Johnson why it is so important that the international community follow the example set by countries which had adopted new policies and reversed their HIV epidemics among people who inject drugs.
