UN chief applauds “encouraging steps” in Burundi

“Encouraging” signs out of Burundi this Tuesday following a meeting between the UN Secretary-General and the country’s leader.
Ban Ki-moon said he welcomes President Pierre Nkurunziza’s plans to hold talks with the opposition, release more than a thousand detainees and lift some media bans.
The measures are aimed at ending nearly a year of political unrest and violence in the Great Lakes nation.
