The laying of explosive booby traps in the liberated Iraqi city of Ramadi has been described as “deeply worrying” by a senior UN official in the country.

The devices have been left by fighters from the ISIL terrorist group which has been driven from the city that it has occupied until recently.

More than three million people have been forced to flee their homes in Iraq since January 2014.

The UN estimates that an additional 3 million people are living under ISIL control.

The UN Development Programme’s representative in Iraq, Lise Grande has been speaking to Cristina Silveiro.

She urged internally displaced refugees to wait until their town is cleared of booby traps to return home.
