Young people will be the ones to “make a difference” in humanitarian crises if they can demonstrate motivation and dedication.

That’s according to an activist who spoke at a briefing on the global refugee crisis organized by the NGO Relations Section of the UN Department of Public Information (DPI).

Other speakers included representatives from the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the European Union, and other NGOs.

Freshta Poupal, a nurse from the United States who travelled to Greece to aid refugees, encouraged people her own age to find ways to get involved.

She talked to Janie Cangelosi about the briefing, and her own experience as a nurse and translator in refugee camps.
