The UN Mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA, is in “combat mode” following the latest allegations of sexual abuse committed by peacekeepers serving there.

That’s what mission chief Parfait Onanga-Anyanga told journalists on Thursday during a visit to the town of Bambari where seven new alleged victims have been located, most of them minors.

The UN Secretary-General, known informally as “the SG,” has labelled sexual abuse by peacekeepers a “cancer,” and has implemented a zero-tolerance policy to stamp it out.

Dianne Penn asked Mr Onanga-Anyanga about his visit and the mission’s efforts to tackle this problem.
