Refugee crisis a “shame”, but not a “surprise”

With more than 60 million refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced persons worldwide, the head of the UN’s Refugee Agency has said the plight of the world’s displaced can no longer be ignored.
Speaking in Geneva on Monday, High Commissioner António Guterres said that the number of people fleeing conflict every day has nearly quadrupled in the last 5 years.
Further complicating the situation is the difficulty in repatriating refugees once they’ve left their homes.
