New sustainable energy envoy stresses strong climate deal

A new global treaty on climate change should include “real commitments” to support countries that are most vulnerable to its effects.

That’s according to Rachel Kyte, Vice President for the World Bank Group, who was recently appointed UN Special Representative for the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative.

Negotiators will meet in Paris this December to finalize the treaty which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions so that global warming can be limited to below 2°C.

Ms Kyte told Pabsy Pabalan what a strong climate deal will look like, and why the two-degree mark is so critical.
