Two giant murals by the prominent Brazilian artist Candido Portinari have been restored and re-installed at the UN headquarters in New York.

The “War and Peace” murals depicting the toll of war and the universal dream of peace were unveiled after being refurbished by the Projeto Portinari foundation and the Brazilian government.

They had been removed from the General Assembly during the building’s recent renovation.

Elizabeth Philip sat down with João Portinari, the artist’s son and head of the foundation, and began by asking about what inspired his late father’s work.
